{"id":11315,"date":"2017-11-10T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldfishing.nfdtesting.uk\/icefish-conference\/2017\/11\/10\/norways-filleter-flagship\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T00:19:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T23:19:47","slug":"norways-filleter-flagship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldfishing.net\/icefish-conference\/news\/vessels-shipyards\/norways-filleter-flagship\/","title":{"rendered":"Norway\u2019s filleter flagship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The largest vessel of its kind in the Norwegian fleet, <em>Granit<\/em> is designed for to have a range of sophisticated processing options on board, with a factory deck fitted out with Breivik S424 and 415 heading machines, Baader 190 and Velfag M700 filleting machines and Breivik 51 and Velfag M800 skinning machines, as well as a Valka cutting and portioning machine. The factory deck\u2019s scales and weighing systems are from Marel and Optimar. Optimar and Intech provided <em>Granit<\/em>\u2019s shrimp processing factory and the two automatic horizontal plate freezers are from Optimar. There are also four vertical plate freezers on <em>Granit<\/em>\u2019s factory deck.<\/p>\n<p><em>Granit<\/em>\u2019s factory deck has a throughput capacity of 90 tonnes per 24 hours and the cargo hold has a 1350m<sup>3<\/sup> capacity. Haarslev supplied <em>Granit<\/em>\u2019s fishmeal plant, which ensures that all of the factory excess from fillet production is routes to producing high quality fishmeal and oil.<\/p>\n<p>Norwegian environmental institution Enova has played a part in <em>Granit<\/em>\u2019s development, putting investment into systems designed to route excess heat to the processing systems on board, and in the Rolls-Royce winch system designed to save energy while also allowing <em>Granit<\/em> to operate under more difficult conditions than would otherwise be possible.<\/p>\n<p><em>Granit<\/em>\u2019s owners went to W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 for the new trawler\u2019s propulsion, opting for a 6960kW 12V32 main engine as well as the two-speed gearbox, controllable pitch propeller (CPP), the HP nozzle, seals and bearings. W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4\u2019s two-speed gearbox enables lower propeller speeds and optimised propulsion efficiency, while still using the main engine power for the 3500kW shaft alternator.<\/p>\n<p>The link with W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 goes back a long way, as the company has previously supplied three pelagic vessels operated by the Halstensen group with propulsion systems.<\/p>\n<p>Additonal power requirements are met by the pair of 1180kW Yanmar gensets and the 147kW Lindenberg emergency set.
