Bergur-Huginn is a progressive processing company which has recently bought new vessels. They now own and operate three fishing trawlers from the Westman Islands. Ari P. Skinney-\u00deinganes from Hornafj\u00f6rdur is a technically advanced processing company which processes many different species of fish including groundfish, lobster, herring and capelin. The raw material comes from their own seven vessels. The company’s marketing is very progressive and they are very important to the Hornafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur community. Ari P. Wendel, Head of Domestic Seafood Team at Landsbanki presented the award to A\u00f0alsteinn Ing\u00f3lfsson from Skinney-\u00deinganes.<\/p>\n
Kristj\u00e1n Ragnarsson is the former chief executive of the Federation of Icelandic Fishing Vessel Owners. He was the main spokesman for advocating sustainable harvesting of fish stocks in Icelandic waters and forward thinking in administering deep sea fishing. Kristj\u00e1n has had many positions of trust for his federation, and was for decades one of the Icelandic fishing vessel owners’ main spokesman. Gu\u00f0j\u00f3n Einarsson, Editor of Fiskifr\u00e9ttir handed the award to Kristj\u00e1n.<\/p>\n
Naust Marine designed the automatic trawl winch system that has been in development since 1979. The company specialises in selling equipment for ships and the marine industry. Gu\u00f0j\u00f3n Einarsson, Editor of Fiskifr\u00e9ttir presented the award to Sn\u00e6bj\u00f6rn Sveinsson from Naust Marine.<\/p>\n
Hampi\u00f0jan is interwoven with the Icelandic fishing industry. The company has evolved to become one of the largest fishing gear manufacturers of the world, having 14 entities in four continents with over 600 employees. The company constantly conducts research and product development of underwater and flume tank research, sophisticated computer software simulation and extensive on-site trials in order to find the best possible solution for their customers. Haraldur Flosi Tryggvason, Director of Vi\u00f0skiptabla\u00f0i\u00f0 handed the award to Haraldur \u00c1rnason from Hampi\u00f0jan.<\/p>\n
Valka is a hi-tec Icelandic company that develops and markets automation solutions for the fish processing industry. The comapny’s primary objective of improving the quality and yield of the raw material, results in a higher selling price for the processed fish products. Bjarni \u00de\u00f3r J\u00f3nsson, Mercator Media’s Icelandic Representative presented the award to Helgi Hj\u00e1lmarsson from Valka.<\/p>\n
3X Technology was established in Iceland in 1994 and the compnay focuses on designing and producing processing equipment for the seafood industry in Iceland. The company has had substantial success in exporting Icelandic goods and services to international markets. Marianne Rasmussen-Coulling, Business Manager of The Icelandic Fisheries handed the award to J\u00f3hann J\u00f3nasson from 3X Technology.<\/p>\n
The judges chose Electronic Navigation Ltd’s WASSP WMB160f Multibeam Sonar for its ability to enable vessels to avoid sensitive habitat and to significantly reduce fuel consumption. Marianne Rasmussen-Coulling, Business Manager of The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition and Awards presented the award to Greg Fletcher, International Sales, Electronic Navigation Ltd.<\/p>\n
The judges chose Furuno’s NavNet 3D navigation system, incorporating the new ultra high definition digital radar and Furuno digital filter fish finder, as they were very impressed with the navigation system and integrated hi-tec components to aid fish catching. Andrew Webster, Managing Director of Mercator Media handed the award to Freddie Hansen, Managing Director of Furuno Danmark A\/S.<\/p>\n
The judges chose EXOS’ A302 pinboner for its ability to give higher yield, higher through-put and better quality. Tim Hills, Advertisement Sales Manager of World Fishing presented the award to Anders T\u00e4rnstr\u00f6m, CEO of Exos AB.<\/p>\n
The judges chose Ishida’s IX-GA Series X-Ray Inspection Systems as they are impressive and versatile systems capable of detecting not only contamination of food products but also of checking product shape, thickness and correct number of pieces in a wide range of pack sizes.
