The 2nd<\/sup> Fish Waste for Profit took place yesterday and has been heralded a great success by attendees who were able to meet in an intimate networking environment and make excellent new international connections.<\/p>\n

An investor filled panel discussion brought the conference to a close, during which Brynjolfur Bjarnason, Partner at Marinvest, explained that he was amazed by the new ideas being presented to him by start-up businesses every day. Further emphasising that continued education and knowledge building are key to the future of the industry.<\/p>\n

He added that we are living in a new world where the younger generations are educated to a higher standard than ever before, are more integrated and have more international opportunities which will further equip them to be the perfect leaders for the fisheries industry.<\/p>\n

Conference chairman, Thor Sigfusson, Founder & Chairman of the Iceland Ocean Cluster, posed the question \u2018where will we be in the next 10 years?\u2019<\/p>\n

The panel were unanimous in their answer that the mindset in the by-product reutilisation industry is changing for the better and that in the future there will no longer be \u2018by-products\u2019, just products.<\/p>\n

The key now is for companies in the \u2018value added\u2019 industry to promote their products in a way that shows they are a viable way of making money; if the financial success of reuse initiatives can be proved then investors will be more willing to back projects.<\/p>\n
