Huon Aquaculture in Tasmania is planning the development of one of the largest salmon farming operations in Australasia. The Meercat Workboat RT17 will play a significant role in the building and ongoing operations of this multi-sited landmark Tasmanian fish farm.<\/p>\n
Peter Smith, managing director of Meercat Workboats said: ” We are delighted that Huon Aquaculture is purchasing this vessel. The Meercat RT17 is ideally suited for the host of duties not only fish farming, but also for Huon’s general civil engineering and servicing requirements.<\/p>\n
He added: “Seawork has always provided a wide audience for us, across various sectors, and the event is key to Meercat’s sales and awareness.”<\/p>\n
The Meercat 17m x 8m is a substantial workboat in its own right, with the additional benefits of being road transportable. This is essential to the workings of a busy multi-sited salmon farm, which, when fully operational, will harvest 70 tonnes of salmon on a daily basis.<\/p>\n
The Meercat features a 40 tonne metre crane, an 8.5 tonne winch, plus crew accommodation. It will be commencing this work immediately on arrival in Tasmania later this year.<\/p>\n
The quality of the build of the vessel, its versatility, together with it’s shallow draft and road-transportability were all key features that prompted Huon Aquaculture to send a surveyor half way around the world to inspect the boat.<\/p>\n
Delivery will be achieved utilising the Meercat’s capability to reduce its envelope to transportable dimensions, enabling the RoRo method of despatch.<\/p>\n
