More than 5000 SKIT separators have been installed to the date. The SKIT\/S combine gravitational separation with a coalescent filter.<\/p>\n<p>The system pumps the bilge water with a helicoidal pump, and due to the difference in densities between water and oil, the first separation is made.<\/p>\n<p>The second part of the process is done through a porous coalescent, with an oily surface, which separates small oil drops from the water.
