{"id":10424,"date":"2017-05-29T09:50:00","date_gmt":"2017-05-29T08:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldfishing.nfdtesting.uk\/icefish-conference\/2017\/05\/29\/huon-aquacultures-new-delilah\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T00:18:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T23:18:03","slug":"huon-aquacultures-new-delilah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldfishing.net\/icefish-conference\/news\/aquaculture\/huon-aquacultures-new-delilah\/","title":{"rendered":"Huon Aquaculture\u2019s new Delilah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new <em>Delilah<\/em> is designed as a multi-purpose workhorse with lifting capacity for installing and maintaining moorings, undertaking net changing duties and handling net and pen maintenance at Huon Aquaculture\u2019s farms in Bruny Island\u2019s Storm Bay, which has a reputation for living up to its name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe weather in Storm Bay can get wild so we have built the <em>Delilah<\/em> to withstand just about anything that Tasmania\u2019s weather can throw at her,\u201d Huon Aquaculture\u2019s CEO Peter Bender said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Delilah<\/em> was constructed from the ground up by the team at the Company\u2019s Port Huon engineering workshop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to our ten employees, we used 54 businesses and contractors to help us build the boat and we are extremely proud that 40 of them are based in southern Tasmania including; Spectrum Engineering, Hobart Marine Coatings, Southern Carpets, Brierley Hose and Handling, and Drysdale Engineering,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese jobs are important in rural and regional areas and we want to do our bit to help other local businesses. That\u2019s why we remain firmly committed to employing as many locally-based contractors, businesses and labourers as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australian company Murray Isles Designs came up with the design work for <em>Delilah<\/em>, which was built over three years and is a sister vessel to the <em>Samson<\/em> that was built at Port Huon in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The 24 metre overall, 10 metre beam <em>Delilah<\/em> has a 30 tonne winch and a crane with a 50 tonne lift capacity<\/p>\n<p>Huon Aquaculture was founded in 1988 by Peter and Frances Bender at Hideaway Bay in Tasmania\u2019s rugged far south. Today the Huon Aquaculture Group produces around 20,000 tonnes of fresh salmon per year and is recognised premium producer of fresh and smoked salmon products.
