The lack of growth is said to be due to low demand from main markets and higher global tuna prices, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).<\/p>\n
It said that fishermen found some obstacles due to decline in raw tuna price and tuna output.<\/p>\n
Tuna yield of Vietnam in January to June 2016 estimated to reach 11,152 MT. During this time output of Phu Yen province was down 7.5%, Binh Dinh down 5% and Khanh Hoa up 13%.<\/p>\n
Vietnam Customs said that in the last six months, tuna fillet\/loin still accounted for the largest proportion of 51.5%, followed by canned tuna at 27.7%.<\/p>\n
This meant exports of tuna fillet\/loin surged by 18.2% year on year while sales of canned tuna were down 18.4%.<\/p>\n
Exports to the US market were down slightly by 0.2% to US$92.8m, but the US did continue to raise its import of frozen tuna fillet from Vietnam by 22.8% over the same period last year. All other tuna products from Vietnam into the US declines.<\/p>\n
Sales to the European Union on a whole were down 6.6%, but while Germany declined tuna imports from Vietnam, Italy and Belgium increased imports.<\/p>\n
Vietnam’s tuna shipment to Japan in the first half of the year was US$8.7m, down 10.5% year on year.<\/p>\n
Exports of processed and canned tuna of Vietnam to Japan continued to increase by 27.9% over the same period and exports of other processed tuna surged 37.6%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
