RNLI lifeboat assists fishing boat

24 May 2011

The Moelfre RNLI lifeboat launched on Sunday under the command of Second Coxswain Michael Williams to reports of a 24ft fishing boat with a gearbox failure.

The Moelfre RNLI lifeboat volunteer crew very quickly located the vessel seven miles North East off Point Lynas.

The sole 32 year old male occupant was on passage from Cornwall to Wick in Scotland when the failure occurred.

A tow was established and the Moelfre RNLI lifeboat towed the casualty into Amlwch port.

Moelfre RNLI lifeboat press officer Dave Massey said: “The Moelfre RNLI lifeboat volunteer crew are highly trained in all aspects of modern day RNLI lifeboat operations. Their navigational skills enabled them to locate the casualty and commence the tow within 23 minutes of the launch. The man on board the vessel was experienced and had suitable safety equipment on board.”
