Largest Danish fishing vessel ever
Rolls-Royce has sealed a NOK 30 million contract with Danish fishing company Niels Jensen & Co AS to provide the design and major equipment for a new purse seiner/pelagic trawler type NVC 354l. With a gross tonnage of 2,300 and at 76m, the Isafold will be the largest fishing vessel in the Danish fleet. The total building price for the vessel is about NOK 130 million.
The hull form is the result of a long-term development process, based on earlier vessels and model tests. The new design is optimised for high speed, especially within the speed range in which this vessel will mainly operate, and sea characteristics for this ship are very good. This results in very low fuel oil consumption and a positive impact on the balance sheet. The aft ship is also optimised to improve the towing force during trawling. Emphasis has been placed on limiting the noise levels on board, meeting the requirements of the Danish Authorities and giving a better working environment and comfort for the crew.
The hold capacity is 2300 m3 and it is able to load it with good freeboard.
Accommodation is provided for 14 people and the Isafold will be fitted with the most modern electronics, fish-finding and communication equipment.
Karstensens Skibsværft AS in Denmark will build the vessel with delivery scheduled for April 2006 and the hull will be built in east Europe.
This NVC354 is arranged for fishing herring, mackerel, capelin and blue whiting and is to be provided with separate deck equipment for trawling and for purse net fishing. It will operate mainly in the North Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea and English Channel, also in the areas around Iceland/Greenland and in the Barents Sea.
The design is based upon a further development of the Norwegian purse seiner/pelagic trawler Gunnar Langva, delivered in December 2003. Niels Jensen & Co. is one of the largest and most established companies in pelagic fishing in Denmark, and close co-operation between the owner and NVC-Design in Rolls-Royce has brought the experience of both to the project.
Monrad Hide at Rolls-Royce says: "All contracts are important, but this contract confirms our strong position in the pelagic market." He stresses that the company, through its continuous priority in development of new fishing vessels, has the special competence that the pelagic owners need. "We are also looking forward to co-operating with Karstensen Skibsværft, which has been specialising in building this type of vessel in recent years," he adds.
