York & Optimar Iceland launch new slurry ice business

19 Feb 2005

York and Optimar have joind forces and will be manufacturing slurry ice units in Iceland to be sold worldwide. The Slurry Ice machines will be marketed under the joint brand name Sabroe Optim-Ice.

The idea behind this cooperation is that York could benefit from the production facilities and experience of Optimar Iceland, and Optimar Iceland could benefit from the extensive sales network and the know-how in the worldwide York organization.

"We are very proud that YORK was interested in working with us", says Gudmundur Jon Matthíasson, General Manager of Optimar Iceland. "It has been a long process, more than a year has passed since we first met with people of York. Since then extensive trials, tests and meetings have passed. We have now passed the tests in accordance with their high quality standards. YORK did previously manufacture their own flow-ice machines, under the name of YORK - Inham, but decided to stop their production and turn this way. "We are very optimistic about the future cooperation with YORK and expect increased sales", continues Gudmundur Jon Matthíasson.

Harry IJpma, Sales & Marketing Manager of YORK (Fishery, The Netherlands) adds: "Our production volume equals that of Optimar Iceland and didn't exceed the level to really justify a serial production. Optimar Iceland was stronger in small capacity plants and YORK was stronger in the large capacities and rack units, which made Optimar Iceland the natural choice and the best partner we could get in developing the best slurry ice product on the market."
