Liquid or flake?
Liquid ice - better than flake?
Ice machine manufacturer Optimar Iceland claims that when it comes to fish freezing, liquid ice has more advantages than flake ice.
According to the company, the advantages include:
• More time at sea, as liquid ice does not melt. This saves on fuel as it is not necessary to sail back and forth as often to collect more ice
• Liquid ice saves labour – there is no need to shovel it as with flake ice
• Downcooling time is around 10 times faster than when using flake ice, reducing bacteria growth
• Increase in yield as there is less drip loss from the fish
