Pesca Sur opens its doors

Pesca Sur will be held from 9-12 March this year, at the new Sur Activo Convention centre in Concepción -- Talcahuano, Chile. This will be the first time that this new exhibition will take place.

The organisers are billing this event as the meeting for the local, regional and global fishing industry, with leading suppliers, distributors, manufacturers, importers and exporters showing their latest trends in products, services, equipment and research.

It is supported by the Chilean Ministry of Fisheries, the Association of Fishing Industries (Asipes), that National Society of Fisheries (Sonapesca) and the Norwegian exhibition Nor-Fishing.

The new centre has 5,000 sqm of covered area with 140 stands, and an outside area for 20 stands. In addition there will be a further 1,350 sqm specially designed for Pesca Sur. Besides the usual facilities the centre is air conditioned and has wireless internet connections at the stands and a Cybercafé for visitors and exhibitors.

On the doorstep there are local restaurants, the Plaza del Trébol mall, Holiday Inn Express Hotel and within a four-kilometre radius is downtown Concepción (10 min) the Port of Talcahuano and the Carriel Sur Airport (3 min). Pesca Sur fair has sold over 96 per cent of its capacity. The organisers say they have already sold 131 stands involving 320 companies in the 5,000 sqm covered area. Participating countries include: Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, South Korea, Denmark, Spain, USA, Finland, France, Netherlands, India, UK, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland. Talcahuano, in Chile's Region 8, is one of Chile's main fishing areas and the event will coincide with an international seminar on fishery issues of national and worldwide interest. The I International Conference of Fishing will be held on March 10. The Seminar is organised by the Association of Industrial Fishermen from the Bio Bio Region (ASIPES). The organisers believe this first event will be a major success and expect at least 5,000 people will visit the four-day fair, including the main suppliers, distributors, manufacturers, importers and exporters.
